Dwindling membership

I note that the overal membership may decrease because of age (putting it nicely!)
Maybe the ROA should try to attract the modern “Elecronics” Officers. The reason I say this is that if the “New Evil Empire” moves towards WW3, the first thing Putin will do is to mess-up satellites! Suddenly, we will need HF Morse as SSB is pathetic compared with CW. And we will need non-satellite navigation. Also, I heard somewhere that at least one School of Navigation no longer teaches astro!

    Thanks for your message John. For several years we tried exactly that and indeed for approximately five years we awarded a prize to “Student of the Year” ETO’s at two colleges. The idea was to generate some interest in the ROA and recognise that that the ‘market’ for want of a better expression had moved on, ie no new Radio Officers. The prize was a £100 Amazon voucher. We did not generate one new member and not one winner of the prize joined the ROA. We gave up.
